FREE BASEBALL CLINIC WITH THE PROS

Engel Foundation
October 14, 2011

The third annual “Legends of the Game” baseball clinic, sponsored by the Engel Foundation, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the McCallie School.

This year’s clinic will honor the Knothole Gang, the popular youth baseball organization promoted by Joe Engel, former owner of the Chattanooga Lookouts. Part of the mission of the Engel Foundation is to perpetuate the legacy of Engel and the stadium which bears his name.

Co-sponsors of the clinic include The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, City of Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department, Dizzy Dean Baseball and the McCallie School.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt will again lead a distinguished coaching staff which includes Dave Bristol, former manager of the Reds, Brewers, Braves and Giants; Clay Parker, former pitcher for the Tigers, Mariners and Yankees; Tim Costo, former outfielder for the Reds; and Sal Rende, veteran minor league manager and hitting coach.

Coaches with minor league experience include Kyler Burke, Wes Hodges, Tyler Massey, Scott Smith, Pete Clifford and Paul Henry.

Several high school and college coaches will assist at the coaching stations.

The skills-based clinic will feature hitting, fielding, base running and pitching for boys and girls ages 6 through 18. The clinic is free but space is limited.

To register visit the Engel Foundation website at engelfoundation.com. Those who register by Oct. 19 will be eligible to participate in the prize drawing at the end of the clinic.
